Do I Teach the Bradley Method®?

It seems like there has been a resurgence in families finding me on the Bradley Method® website and I’ve gotten a lot of questions lately on whether I still each a traditional Bradley Method® class. I wanted to answer this question more in depth, and get all of my thoughts and feelings in one place.

I love the Bradley Method® and used it with my son nearly 12 years ago. I had no idea that by signing up for a birth class the direction of my life would be forever changed. This is where my journey to birth work began in 2014 and I am so thankful for the foundation it gave me.

While I have remained certified with them, I am no longer teaching the Bradley Method®. In 2019 I began teaching a shorter, 4-week class, in addition to the traditional 12-week class. Some families were finding me too late and couldn’t (or didn’t want to) commit to a longer class, so I was offering both options simultaneously. As you can imagine, this was a lot to manage. And then in 2020 Covid happened and we were required to teach online. After teaching a series online, I knew this wasn’t my preference and I had to make a choice to move away from the Bradley Method®.

Additionally, over the years I started infusing my own experience and tools as a doula and I found I love to teach my own way. I want my students to have many resources to pull from, not just one way to do things. Now, I have my own curriculum of all the things I want my own clients to know.  My class still focuses on the key principles of the Bradley Method® like physiological birth, partner support, and informed consent. My class is perfect for any type of birth and it’s only 5 weeks long. My materials are my own and I am really proud of what I’ve created. I love it so much that in 2024 I launched the self-paced online option of my own birth class.  Truthfully, I believe it’s the most well rounded birth education in San Diego and my students have loved it, too.

If you are still unsure if my class is the right birth education class for you, let’s connect! I would be happy to answer your questions and point you in the right direction.
